Mountains

The West Kootenay Mountain world is dominated by the Purcells, Selkirk, and Monashee ridges. Magnificent hiking trails into Valhalla, Kokanee Glacier, and Goat Range provincial parks lead the visitor into an uncrowded space of spectacular beauty with bizarre peaks of up to 3000 m.

Glaciers and snowfields feed azure mountain lakes and flow in crystal-clear creeks down into the valleys filling Slocan Lake and Kootenay Lake. The alpine meadows of summer are an overflowing wildflower sea of all colors and shapes and full of buzzing hummingbirds.
